Aims & Objectives of the course:
This bariatric handling course is designed to address the needs of staff who are providing care services for ‘bariatric’ patients. It looks at some of the negative attitudes associated with caring for a ‘bariatric’ patient and how these may be overcome. The course also explores why a person’s weight may have increased to such an extent and how this affects their body shape, image, personal hygiene and physical abilities. In addition to exploring how to assist bariatric patients to move using a bariatric body suit and bariatric equipment, delegates will also discuss the emotional aspects of being regarded as ‘bariatric’ and how this may affect their motivation to move.
Benefits of attending the course:
By attending this course delegates will gain a much more comprehensive picture of how to safely assist bariatric patients to move in a sensitive, motivating and understanding manner.
Delegates are required to demonstrate a safe and interactive approach to risk assessment and problem solving during the course. Certificates of competency last for 1 year, and are run in line with the guidance and standards set by National Back Exchange.
